mmw architects of norway was a part of one of four designteams that participated at the design meeting in risør June 12th and 13th. 2008. This year BeyondRisor focused on acoustic design in wood.
Each team consisted of a furniture manufacturer, an established designteam and a young, new designer.
Our team was Bosvik, StokkeAustad and mmw architects.
We are constantly in rooms with different features. At home, at work, in restaurants and night clubs – in the city in general.
The material use in general is often in glass, stone, concrete and other hard surfaces that does not fulfill a good acoustic climate.
BeyondRisør wanted to fronte this problem.
The designteam used the pentagon to give the form an aesthetic value for the project and also to contain a rich set of building opportunities because of its form. By repeating the form they had a product with a clear and strong identity. The pentagon was designed as a flexible module in different combinations to reduce noise and give the room a sculptural privacy.
The acoustic treatment lies in the ability of making private zones and reduce noise thru the volumes. All the pentagons are made of noise-absorbing material.
