Update! Fhiltex opens on “sukkerbiten” May 2011.
New photos under site.

Fhiltex is a simple and functional house witch can adapt to any terrain. Two 20` and 40` standard steel containers, are transformed into a 62m² house lifted above the ground on four steel legs. The house contains everything needed for a modern life: bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, livingroom and wardrobe. It is self-sufficient in trems of energy by use of gas and solar panels, as well as having a water recycling mechanisem.

A 16m² roof terrace, 3 balconies and a 21m² roof rack gives a 360 degree view and sun throughout the day. This can also be used for storing equipment such as water tanks and gas containers. The house is wrapped in an insulating cloak. All parts can be demounted, transported as two containers and re – erected at a new location. When closed the Fhiltex appears as any ordinary steel containers, and may be shipped by boat, train or car anywhere in the world.

The only attachment to the ground is four plain foundations for the columns. The stairs are hinged to adapt to any type of terrain.

The container house was the main attracion at the Momentum festival in Moss, Norway in 1998 and was later a part of the design exhibition Form-98 . Fhiltex has also represened Norway at the nordic design exhibition in Chicago in the spring of 1999.

Fhiltex will reopen on “sukkerbiten” this summer.

Fhiltex will stand as a portal marking the entrance to the island. Fhiltex will open during May/June, and we will get back to you on the date soon. There will be a celebration!

Fhiltex will be part of a container village on the island from May to September. The container village is drawn by G*R*I*G on commission by Øyafestivalen – a music festival in Oslo in August and HAV Eiendom AS. The village will be used for different happenings during this summer.

Sukkerbiten is opening for the season on Friday 13th May. “Sukkerbiten” is Oslo’s new summer island placed 100m from to the Norwegian Opera and Ballet.
